Luostarista on kehittynyt suomalaisen ortodoksisen kristillisyyden pyhiinvaelluskeskus. Suomen ortodoksinen kirkko on toinen maan kahdesta Kirkkojen Maailmanneuvoston jäsenkirkosta.
Valokuvaaja Peter Williams teki matkan Suomeen KMN:n viestintäosaston edustajana. Palatessaan hänellä oli mukanaan värikkäs ja vaikuttava kuvasarjan luostarin elämästä. Se esitellään KMN:n nettisivuilla.

The Monastery of the Transfiguration of Christ, with its tradition reaching back to the Middle Ages, is located at Papinniemi in Finland's Southern Savonia region since 1940, when its monks had to flee from the island of Valamo in Lake Ladoga.
Today, the monastery has developed into a national centre for pilgrimage within the Orthodox Church of Finland, one of the country's two WCC member churches.
The photographer Peter Williams travelled to Finland for WCC Communications and brought back a colourful portrait of monastic life that can now be viewed on the "Keeping the Faith" website.
"Keeping the faith" is a multimedia project of the World Council of Churches that celebrates the immense spiritual riches and cultural diversity within the ecumenical movement and the Christian world.
